Better living through chemistry

This time of year is very tough for me. Very. So now, I'm starting back on the anti-depressants. Citalopram (generic Celexa - because the insurance company likes it). The side effects are troublesome. I think it's already lowered my sex drive (not too bad a thing, right now).

The worst is the delayed ejaculation. Oh, I can get it up, I just can't get it off! It takes quite a bit of effort. With exercised induced asthma, it's best to keep the inhaler handy!

No, I'm not moaning, just wheezing. What a life.

I now what you mean, I've been on Effexor for 8 years now. It makes living a bit easier and less anxious but it plays hell with my sex drive (poor Geoff).

Try Welbutrin or a generic equivalent.

NOTE to Wrecks: I do much better with SSRIs like Citalopram (Effexor, Zoloft, etc.). Welbutrin is a norepinephrine re-uptake inhibitor, and it's that serotonin that I seem to need. I guess the other option is eat tons of dark chocolate!

Believe me Joe, I understand exactly what you are going through! I have to say that Celexa is better than Paxil. With Paxil, I would just give up after almost an hour of trying. Nasty. Celexa I find is very time dependent. I take it in the evening so that is the time to get romantic. If you come up with some sure fire technique, let me know! (The puns were not intended but kind of funny!!)

I am not on any of those drugs and from your descriptions, I will stay away!

I had been on a med that was supposed to help with my sex drive. After a talk with my doc last month he agreed to let me stop taking it. I told him it's not use getting the boy all excited when there's no party to go to. Well, wouldn't you know it! Since I stopped it, I'm hornier now than I've been in a long time and having increased erections (but none last longer than 4 hours - LOL!).

you can take what is dubbed 'drug holiday' where you hold the dose for 1-2 days prior to anticipation of sex. then you restart the Rx
There are ~ 6 'antidotes' you can add to an SSRI to restore sexual functioning.

I had the same problem with Zoloft a few years back. I switched to Effexor XR with no problems at all, it works for me, but everyone is different.
