For the Birds

I have great fun feeding the birds (and the squirrels). These are my feeders. The yellow one contains thistle seeds for the goldfinches. Lots of goldfinches. The "bell" feeder seems to be for the squirrels most to the time. Next purchase: squirrel guard for the post.

The red one is for hummingbirds. I was an adult before I knew hummingbirds lived here (and anywhere, outside of National Geographic!). To see the hummers at the feeder (and fighting over it) is really exciting. Such amazing and beautiful creatures.

Always nice to see a fellow birder. When I had my townhouse I had feeders. Don't waste your money on a squirrel guard they find a way around it. It is great fun, I used a feeder just to encourage the cardinals, I love to watch them. In migration season its so interesting. Keep up with the birds, its a relaxing diversion.

We like to feed the birds, too, although I do not have a hummingbird feeder. Our former neighbors did that and I agree that the little critters are fascinating.

As for squirrels - they too are fascinating to watch. They are clever little thieves!

We have several of those shepherd's hooks.

Hummingbirds are always an amazing sight. So small and light, with wings that flap so fast. Unfortunately they've had a fair share of fly-ins with the windows. Try an empty alumninum pie pan for a squirrel guard. ;-)

i love feeding birds too. we have plenty of hummingbirds but in this hot weather keeping the syrup from 'frying' is too much work.
