Darkness & Light

Sorry for the lack of posts.  The days are getting shorter.  And the Darkness descends.  This time of year has always been difficult for me, and this year is no exception.  But it is not all darkness.  There is light, as well.

I am getting some things in my life together; I'm not letting the darkness overcome me.

My back is still a bit troublesome but better.  The weather is getting cold; it may sleet or snow today.  There are many work responsibilities requiring attention.

Enough for now.  I am here, I am still moving, journeying, living.

The light shone in the darkness.  The darkness did not overcome it.

And in other news . . . .

The picture is of my room in the House of C & S.  It's small, but it's home.  Looks like I'm going to be here a while.  They are wonderful, welcoming folk with whom to live.  I am grateful.  My laptop sits atop a bookshelf (when it's not in bed with me).  The towel and such on the bed is for Pippy the cat who stays with me.   The windows look out onto the garden.  The house has a wooded setting, so there's little need to clothes the curtains.

I'm making some new friends, slowly, carefully.

Beautiful hardwood floors!
Hang in there my friend. We all get blue and down at this time of season, especially those of us who are single.

The days are getting shorter, but in a matter of weeks, the days will begin to get longer. And we won't really be able to tell all that much. In fact, the temperatures will keep dropping and we will at one level be moving deeper into the cold of winter. Yet as we feel ourselves growing colder, the larger picture, the Earth, is moving towards warmth (at least for us in the northern hemisphere.)

I love the icon of Mary, the Mother of God, Light in All Darkness. And this prayer:

Mother of God,
Light in All Darkness,
shelter Him
our flame of hope
with your
tender hands.
And in our times
of dread and nightmares,
let Him be our
dream of comfort.
And in our times
of physical pain
and suffering,
let Him be
our healer.
And in our times
of separation
from God and one another,
let Him be
our communion.
Amen

I was beginning to worry about you.

I am sorry things are not wonderful, but I am glad to know that you are moving through life. I think if we keep moving, God can guide us. It is when we stop that we get stuck.

May the promised one live deep in your heart!

I think your place looks cozy and lovely
it looks like a sort of hobbit hole and a cocoon- perhaps you are prepping to transform?

good to hear from you.
Your "reference" is the one upon which I am basing my C'mas cards this year. I ended up rereading the passage in the various translations of my youth, translations sadly long ago forgotten by our world. Each one captures a different nuance of that powerful proclamation, but each reminds us to look beyond the present darknesses that would do us in.

Hang in there buddy. Your room looks like a great place for a long afternoon nap.

I'm glad you're hanging in there, Joe. Your room looks comfortable, and C&S must be very wonderful people.

Are you going over to the big house at all this holiday season? Take some pics and share if you are. I suspect they put up some incredible outdoor lights.

Winter Solstice is Dec.21 - the shortest day of the year...after that each day is a little longer and brighter...
"It does get better", hang in there

Since it gets dark so early, maybe you need to do one of those retreat activities. Make a little fire, grab a pencil and paper, write down the things that are bothering you or making you unhappy. Say a little prayer and toss the paper in the fire and let the fire consume that problem and send if off to God to handle for you

Be it ever so humble there is no place like home. Sounds like a peaceful setting to come home to after a hard day of work.

Yeah, I have the seasonal blahs too. Get out in the sunshine whenever it shines. It helps.
